This past week has been big for wrestling fans because it’s WrestleMania week, and we still have Raw and SmackDown Live to look forward to. Ahead of WrestleMania Week, WWE makes a big push to sign new subscribers up to the WWE Network, and the company announced today that the Network hit a record 2.12 million total subscribers.
The official press release notes that 1.81 million are paid subscribers, representing a 9% increase in the number of paid subscribers from the day after WrestleMania 33 last year.
If post-WrestleMania subscriber activity ends up being comparable to trends from last year, it’s estimated that the WWE Network will have 1.77 million paid subscribers in the second quarter of 2018.
“We expect to deliver record subscriber levels, revenue and Adjusted OIBDA in 2018,” said George Barrios, WWE Co-President. “WWE Network’s continued growth along with our massive reach across traditional television as well as digital and social platforms, reaffirms the effectiveness of our global, multi-platform content strategy.”
WrestleMania 34 also broke the record for highest grossing entertainment event at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome by bringing in $14.1 million dollars worth of revenue. According to WWE the event was sold out with an attendance number of 78,133.
WWE Network subscribers also watched 25.2 million hours of content during WrestleMania Week which breaks down to about 14 hours per subscriber. Those numbers are up 12% from 22.5 million hours viewed during WrestleMania Week in 2017.
