Randy Orton has been the top guy on SmackDown Live since winning the WWE Title on the grandest stage of them all. Recently, he lost the championship to Jinder Mahal at Backlash, but WWE fans are more curious about why The Viper has been missing WWE live events.

According to a new report from CageSideSeats, Orton is allowed to miss those weekend live events because it’s written into his contract. It’s unclear if the reason why has to do with the distance or if Randy Orton only has to work a certain amount of house shows every month.
Regardless, The Viper isn’t injured or taking personal time away from WWE. He just wasn’t required to appear during those house shows. He’s expected to miss more this upcoming weekend, but he just cut an intense promo on Jinder Mahal on SmackDown Live last night.
Heading into the Money in the Bank PPV, Orton will receive his rematch with Mahal for the WWE Title. As of this writing, it’s a fair assumption to make that he won’t reclaim the title unless the powers that be change their mind about Jinder’s push over the next few weeks.
