John Cena stepped away from professional wrestling back in December when he was defeated by Gunther in his final match at Saturday Night’s Main Event. However, it was recently confirmed that John Cena will be returning to WWE in a non-wrestling role for WrestleMania 42.
Earlier today WWE announced John Cena as the host of WrestleMania, and Fightful Select is reporting that the move was made in order to help boost ticket sales. The expectation is that the announcement will be heavily promoted on WWE television throughout the week.
Ticket sales for WrestleMania 42 have been a hot topic in the wrestling world for months now as tickets for the Show of Shows don’t seem to be selling as well as they did for last year’s WrestleMania in Vegas. One way or another WrestleMania is still a few weeks away, so it will be interesting to see if Cena being added to the show does indeed help ticket sales.
John Cena’s retirement tour was a huge part of WWE programming last year and he made history when he defeated Cody Rhodes to win his 17th world championship in the night two main event at WrestleMania 41. Cody Rhodes will be main eventing once again this year as he’s currently set to defend the Undisputed WWE Championship against Randy Orton.
Stay tuned for updates.
