Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre have been feuding for months now and Drew finally managed to defeat Cody to become the new Undisputed WWE Champion back in January.
Recently Randy Orton earned the right to challenge for the belt when he won the men’s Elimination Chamber match, and shortly after Nick Aldis announced that Drew would be defending his title against Cody on SmackDown this week. It looks like we could be seeing a major title change on Friday as PWInsider recently reported that Cody Rhodes vs. Randy Orton is the current plan for WrestleMania 42.
Fightful Select is reporting that as far back as January, Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton were aware of the plan being pitched for WrestleMania. It’s also being reported that one of the reasons why WWE took the title off of Cody Rhodes was so The American Nightmare could be featured in the Royal Rumble and Elimination Chamber matches in order to add to the draw for those shows.
The report also notes that as of last month the plan was for Rhodes and Randy Orton to face off at WrestleMania 42, but plans have been in flux so much that it’s possible they could change.
