WrestleMania season is here and all of the names from the past are returning. Goldberg’s back, The Undertaker is back, Brock Lesnar is back and Kurt Angle is returning soon for his WWE Hall of Fame induction. But one star who we haven’t seen on the Road to WrestleMania this year is Kane.
Kane has had a long career with WWE and he’s considered by many to be a legend in the professional wrestling industry. It was reported a few months ago that he was being kept off TV and live events so he could rest up and give some nagging injuries a chance to heal, but according to a new report there might be more to it than that.
SportsKeeda is reporting that the former WWE World Champion requested time off so that he could run for the Knox County mayoral seat in 2018. During his time away from WWE Kane has also been focusing on the insurance agency that he owns with his wife. The Jacobs Agency offers auto, home, motorcycle, RV, boat, life insurance and more.
Kane has been very loyal to the company over the years, so WWE didn’t have any problem with giving him the requested time off. Due to his loyalty Kane has one of the highest paying contracts with the company and he currently makes $905,000 annually as part of his downside guarantee.
His current deal is reportedly set to expire next year, so it will be interesting to see if he signs a new contract, or rides off into the sunset.
With The Undertaker possibly retiring soon and Kane potentially retiring in 2018, it looks we could be moving toward the end of an era for the Brothers of Destruction.
