The WWE World Heavyweight Championship is the most prestigious championship in all of wrestling. It’s been held by some of the most legendary names in the business and the belt itself has become iconic.
Over the years there have been many awesome belt designs for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and today we’re going to rank them. Well, most of them anyway.
We’re starting from the “Winged Eagle” design which debuted in 1988 and then going from there. Here we go.
#9 – Spinner Belt
It may have been held by huge names like John Cena, Randy Orton, CM Punk, Jeff Hardy, Edge and others. But the spinner belt is definitely a contender for most awkward looking WWE Championship ever.
There’s a really nice template for a championship belt in there somewhere, but in the end the spinner came out looking like a toy. There’s nothing wrong with adding a little bling to a belt, but this thing just looked a tad bit ridiculous. Even after it stopped spinning.
#8 – Rated-R Spinner
Same rules apply as above. However this belt does rank slightly higher than the original spinner because well, let’s just be honest, it looks cooler.
#7 – Brahma Bull
The “Brahma Bull” belt was created during The Attitude Era but it never appeared on TV. It was created to be The Rock’s version of Austin’s “Smoking Skull” as you can probably tell by the similar design. For whatever reason WWE decided not to use it.
WWE confirmed its existence and revealed the “Brahma Bull” belt a few years ago on their website and they even sell a replica of it in their shop. Although it’s a shame that the belt never made it to television, it’s still nice to know it exists as it’s arguably one of the coolest custom championships ever.
#6 – Current
The Rock might not have been able to bring his own custom belt to TV. But he was chosen to debut the current WWE World Heavyweight Championship a few years ago during the buildup to WrestleMania 29. Rock gave a nice little speech, built up the reveal, pulled the cloth from the title, and the crowd went mild.
No one was really all that impressed when this belt debuted. It seems like some of that had to do with the old logo in the middle. The title appears to be growing on people since making the transition from the old WWE logo to the current WWE logo.
This belt looked awkward at first but now it looks like it belongs in the WWE when carried by guys like Seth Rollins, Brock Lesnar and John Cena. It’s big, it’s bold and it works.
#5 – Smoking Skull Belt
When it comes to custom World Titles they don’t get much cooler than Steve Austin’s “Smoking Skull” belt. This thing is impressive as it’s decked out with the obvious smoking skull, two rattlesnakes and a bad ass strap that’s covered in snake skin.
Custom WWE World Championship belts are very hard to pull off, but this one more than delivers.
#4 – Undisputed
When the Undisputed Championship was created it consisted of the WCW World Heavyweight Championship and the WWE Attitude Era belt. Shortly after Triple H defeated Chris Jericho for the Undisputed Championship at WrestleMania X8, a new belt was created to represent the title.
The belt would spend some time as the Undisputed Championship before being renamed the WWE Championship after the brand split. This design didn’t have a very long run as it debuted in 2002 and was replaced by the spinner in 2005. It’s a shame that this thing didn’t stick around longer because it’s a belt that truly made the person holding it look like a champion.
#3 – World Heavyweight Championship
Sure this list is about ranking WWE World Heavyweight Championship belts and this belt was originally the WCW World Title. But this belt was a part of the company for over a decade so it’s more than earned the right to be ranked here.
This belt is a classic, and a strong case could be made for this being ranked as the greatest World Championship belt design ever. The big gold belt is just so damn prestigious looking and it’s hard not to miss it being around all the time. Here’s to hoping that WWE doesn’t keep this belt retired forever.
#2 – Attitude Era
During The Attitude Era the WWE was able to create some of the biggest stars this industry has ever seen. During that era many great champions were crowned such as Steve Austin, The Rock, The Undertaker, Mankind, Triple H Kurt Angle and more. And this is the belt they wore.
This belt has been held by some of the greats and although it can be easy for championship belts to look outdated over time, this one still holds up today. The belt looks like a prize worth fighting for.
#1 – Winged Eagle
The “Winged Eagle” is considered by many wrestling fans to be the definitive WWE World Heavyweight Championship belt design. It’s not hard to see why. The belt is a classic and it still looks incredible today.
During its run the “Winged Eagle” was held by names like Randy Savage, Ric Flair, Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, The Undertaker, Hulk Hogan and more. Some of the most legendary performers in the history of the business held this belt.
When it comes to WWE World Heavyweight Championship belts, they’re all legendary in their own way. But the “Winged Eagle” championship belt is truly iconic which is why it has earned its rightful place here at the top of the list.
