A few months ago Gunther won the King of the Ring tournament and he earned a shot at the WWE World Heavyweight Championship which he went on to win at SummerSlam on Saturday night. Gunther defeated Randy Orton in the finals of the tournament, but the finish was controversial as Orton happened to have one of his shoulders up when he was pinned.
This week on Monday Night Raw, Gunther made his way out to the ring to cut a promo hyping up his big win at SummerSlam. After a few minutes Randy Orton’s music hit and he made his way down to the ring to confront the WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
Randy said he wanted to come out and congratulate Gunther, but that’s not his style. He did admit that the title looks mighty fine hanging over Gunther’s shoulders. However, he then said that Gunther only got the title shot because he beat him at King of the Ring, but he questioned whether or not Gunther actually beat him.
The Viper said that even Triple H questioned it, and Triple H told the world that there would be a Gunther vs. Orton part two. He said that he’s here tonight to call that in. Orton told Gunther he’s the only main who can match him in the ring, and the fans deserve a modern Flair vs. Steamboat. Orton went on to say that he when it comes to Bash In Berlin he will be walking out as the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
Gunther told Randy that not beating him clean at King of the Ring left a stain on his record. The WWE World Heavyweight Champion then accepted the challenge and shook his hand.
