Fans who have been attending SmackDown branded live events on WWE’s European tour probably noticed that Randy Orton wasn’t part of the tour, and The Viper is currently out of action.
WWE confirmed today that Orton recently underwent surgery to repair a medial meniscus tear in his left knee, and according to Orton he’s known he needed surgery for quite some time.
“I’ve known I needed the surgery since late last year, but I’ve been waiting for the right time to get my knee cleaned out,” Orton told WWE.com. “Right now was the right time.”
WWE.com notes that the former WWE World Heavyweight Champion is currently at home recovering, but he is “staying motivated to come back and dominate the blue brand.”
Orton last wrestled at the Backlash pay-per-view on May 6th where he challenged Jeff Hardy for the United States Championship.
WWE has also confirmed that former Divas Champion Nikki Bella will be appearing on the Red Nose Day episode of American Ninja Warrior.
The episode will air on NBC on Thursday, May 24th.
