John Cena is currently promoting Fast and Furious 9, but the former WWE Champion found himself at the center of some controversy when he referred to Taiwan as a country. Cena received some backlash from fans in China, and he went on to post an apology in the form of a video where he spoke Mandarin.
“I made one mistake. I have to say something very, very, important now. I love and respect China and Chinese people. I’m very, very sorry about my mistake,” Cena said in the video. “I apologize, I’m very sorry. You must understand that I really love, really respect China and the Chinese people. My apologies. See you.”
In response to the controversy CM Punk posted a simple tweet informing fans that he now has a new bio on Twitter. The former WWE Champion’s new bio, which can be seen below, now reads, “Taiwan is a country.”

John Cena’s comments created quite the uproar, with some fans declaring that they would not accept his apology until he took further action.
“Please say ‘Taiwan is part of China’ in Chinese. Otherwise, we will not accept your apology,” one Weibo user said in response to Cena.
