Roman Reigns made his surprise return at the SummerSlam pay-per-view last year, and he shocked the world when he won the Universal Title at the Payback PPV a week later. The Tribal Chief has managed to hold onto his Universal Championship since then, and he’s been dominating his challengers for months now.
WWE announced today that this year’s SummerSlam pay-per-view will take place on Saturday, August 21st, and it sounds like the company could have a big title match in mind for the show.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that the leading rumor is WWE wants to book Roman Reigns vs. John Cena for the Universal Title at SummerSlam.
As of last week the company was in talks with John Cena to return for SmackDown in Houston, TX on Friday, July 16th, but those plans have not been finalized.
Stay tuned for updates as they become available.
