Every year fans look forward to the Royal Rumble premium live event as it kicks off the road to WrestleMania. Surprise appearances in the Royal Rumble matches also give fans something to look forward to, and it looks like we could be seeing a familiar face in January.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that it’s rumored Kairi, formerly known as Kairi Sane in WWE, could be returning for an appearance at the Royal Rumble. However, those rumors were making the rounds before Kairi won the IWGP Women’s Championship, so it’s not clear if her title win may have changed things.
Kairi originally signed with WWE in 2016 and she went on to work for the NXT brand. She appeared in the first ever women’s Royal Rumble match in 2018 and later that year she won the NXT Women’s Championship at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn IV.
In 2019, WWE called Kairi up to the main roster where she teamed with Asuka as The Kabuki Warriors and they went on to win the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles. In October of 2020 it was announced that Kairi Sane was working as an ambassador for WWE in Japan, and she officially parted ways with the company in December of 2021. Stay tuned for updates.
