Roman Reigns has been champion for almost three years now, and tonight he will defend the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Jey Uso in a Tribal Combat match at SummerSlam. Many fans have been wondering when Roman Reigns will drop the title, but a title change may not be in WWE’s plans.
Fightful Select is reporting that as of WrestleMania 39 there were no active plans for Roman Reigns to lose the title, and the idea wasn’t seriously considered after WrestleMania either.
WWE sources commented on Roman’s title reign ahead of his match with Jey Uso at SummerSlam and they noted that as of WrestleMania there were no plans for Roman Reigns to drop the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. It’s being said that Sami Zayn, Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso weren’t ever heavily planned or scheduled to win the title.
When asked directly when The Tribal Chief’s reign will come to an end a source said, “whenever Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman say it f***in’ ends.” The belief is that whenever he drops the championship Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman will have heavy input regarding who he drops it to.
Cody Rhodes challenged Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at WrestleMania, but it was The Tribal Chief who walked out with the gold. The next night Cody kicked off a feud with Brock Lesnar and it’s being reported that those plans were “very transparent” and Cody knew well ahead of time that was the plan following WrestleMania 39. Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman also knew well ahead of time that Roman would be retaining his title at WrestleMania.
The source also justified Roman’s ongoing title reign by pointing out that Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes are hotter than ever, Solo Sikoa is about to become a draw, Jey Uso is an attraction with Jimmy Uso also on his way to becoming one.
