Dolph Ziggler shocked the world a few weeks ago at the WWE Clash of Champions pay-per-view when he defeated Bobby Roode and Baron Corbin in a triple threat match to win the United States Championship.
He shocked the world once again when he appeared on SmackDown Live a few weeks later and left the title in the ring and he hasn’t been seen since.
SmackDown General Manager then announced that the title had been relinquished and a new champion is set to be crowned. A United States Title tournament is now underway, and it looks like we could be seeing one of the blue brand’s stars win championship gold for the first time in his main roster career.
CageSideSeats notes that the US Title tournament is expected to come down to Jinder Mahal and Bobby Roode, with Roode likely winning the belt.
If Roode does end up winning the belt it would be a great boost for his career especially considering the fact that WrestleMania season is quickly approaching, which means he could potentially walk into the Show of Shows with the belt.
As always nothing happens until it happens in the world of professional wrestling, but it looks like Roode could be the next US Champion.
