There have been reports floating around that William Regal is set to be inducted as part of the 2017 WWE Hall of Fame class. PWInsider reported this rumor yesterday as well as weeks ago, but so far nothing has materialized.
WWE instead announced the recipient of the “Warrior Award” yesterday for the Hall of Fame. The “Warrior Award” has typically been announced as the final inductee in previous years which leads many to believe William Regal won’t be a part of the 2017 class.
This would stand to reason, because there is already a huge class full of big names for this year’s ceremony. Unfortunately, Vader and William Regal won’t be on the list.
Mike Johnson from PWInsider also reports he has spoken to people within the company who did not believe Regal would be inducted this year at all.
Another interesting note is Shaquille O’Neal was thought to be the person inducted into the celebrity wing of the WWE Hall of Fame this year, but that “obviously isn’t happening.” He notes Cyndi Lauper is a glaring omission from the WWE Hall of Fame’s celebrity wing, but she will be on tour in Australia during WrestleMania weekend. Regis Philbin is another celebrity name being tossed around, but they need to decide on something quickly because they’re really running out of time.
There is also the plan for another round of “Legacy” inductees, so maybe Toots Mondt will finally get into the WWE Hall of Fame in one way or another.
