The Authors of Pain have become one of the most dominant tag teams in NXT history ever since their debut at NXT Takeover: The End back in 2016. The former Tag Team Champions lost their belts to Sanity back at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn and it was thought that the team would now be making their way to the main roster.
According to AllWrestlingNews, the reason why The Authors of Pain are still yet to make the move away from NXT is because WWE doesn’t want them to end up like The Ascension.
The Ascension are also former NXT Tag Team Champions and were seen as one of the most dominant teams on the brand whilst they were down in NXT, but they haven’t been used appropriately on SmackDown Live over the past few months and are now considered to just be enhancement talents.
It is reported that there was a split between the creative team with a number of them thinking that The Authors of Pain weren’t ready for the main roster, and the ones who did couldn’t come up with a creative plan for them moving forward.
Authors of Pain, alongside Paul Ellering, appeared on the latest tapings of NXT, which means that at least for now it seems that they will be staying on the developmental brand until creative can come up with a plan for them.
