Kevin Owens is the New Face Of America and his United States Championship reign has brought even more life to the title as he carried it out of his amazing feud with Chris Jericho. If the size of a feud dictates how important a championship is then it doesn’t get much bigger than KO vs Y2J because that rivalry was top-notch.
But Chris Jericho is currently taking a break from television and even though he’s still making a couple live show dates here and there Jericho hasn’t been seen since KO DDTed him off the entrance ramp. But Kevin Owens is still a fighting champion and in order for him to do that he needs someone to defend his title against.
Next week’s SmackDown Live is set to feature a battle royal to determine the #1 contender for Kevin Owens’ United States Championship. He’s had some beef with a couple superstars in recent weeks but one guy who KO can’t seem to shake is AJ Styles.
It has been the thinking that AJ Styles will eventually find himself challenging for Kevin’s United States Championship and that might have been confirmed as WWE could have accidentally let the phenomenal cat out of the bag early on this one.
WWE hasn’t announced anyone else who will be in the Independence Day Battle Royal match besides AJ Styles. If that isn’t enough of a clue WWE.com says, “AJ Styles has made it clear in recent weeks that he is coming after Owens, as he wants to represent the United States as its champion. The New Face Of America gloated that The Phenomenal One would never get to answer his open challenge because he doesn’t deserve it.”
They continued to hype the Kevin Owens vs AJ Styles feud by saying: “can Styles earn the chance he’s been looking for, or will a new Superstar emerge from the pack to challenge the United States Champion?”
It is possible for another person to jump in and capture the #1 contender spot for the US Title because SmackDown Live is the land of opportunity after all. But it is looking even more likely that AJ Styles will be stepping up to try and shut Kevin Owens down at Battleground.
