WrestleMania 34 brought a lot of money to the city of New Orleans a few weeks ago, and next year the stars of WWE will be heading to MetLife Stadium in New Jersey for WrestleMania 35.
WrestleMania has become a big revenue generator for large cities around the country, and it looks like the event could be Florida bound once again in the future.
The Tampa Bay Times is reporting that the city of Tampa plans to submit a bid on Friday to host WrestleMania at Raymond James Stadium in 2023, ’24 or ’25.
“I think it’s something we’ve been taking a hard look at for quite some time,” said Tampa Bay Sports Commission executive director Rob Higgins. “Naturally, we think with the rich tradition of professional wrestling in our community, with so many (WWE stars) who live here, with how much passion there is for professional wrestling, that it makes a lot of sense to try to host the premier event in Wrestlemania.”
There are also plans to place a bid to host the WWE Royal Rumble in in 2022 or ’23.
Whether or not Tampa will host the events remains to be seen, but it appears that the ball is in WWE’s court.
“They’ll take some time to evaluate (the bid), and then I’m sure we’ll be in conversation with them to see where it takes us,” Higgins said.
