Possible Future Plans For Jinder Mahal’s WWE Championship Reign

SmackDown Live has a heel champion right now and by all accounts Jinder Mahal is doing his job. He’s hated, vicious, and keeps holding onto his title by any means necessary unless you’re in India then he’s a hero. But every champion must eventually lose their title. There are new theories about who might be taking Jinder’s title away from him when that time comes.

WWE Leaks reports Jinder Mahal’s successor might not even be on the current active roster. Reports are John Cena could be in line to defeat Jinder Mahal for his WWE World Championship when he returns from hiatus.

If WWE decides to take the title off of Jinder using Cena it would be John’s seventeenth world title reign. The thought might be if they use Mahal to transfer the title back to Cena in this manner it might be a way for John Cena to beat Ric Flair’s record without causing a stir of resentment. The thought might be fans will be too happy Jinder had been toppled to worry about Cena breaking Flair’s record of world title reigns.

We reported a couple months ago Baron Corbin was the favorite to win the Money In The Bank ladder match and it doesn’t appear those plans have changed. If anything, Baron Corbin is looking even more certain to come down with the briefcase in St. Louis as the event approaches. Baron is earmarked for a top spot on the SmackDown roster so a world title run looks highly likely sooner than later.

Since both The Modern Day Maharaja and The Lone Wolf are both heels it would make sense to transition the title from Mahal to a babyface before Corbin takes the gold. With John Cena appearing at the July 4th SmackDown Live show it might be possible for him to win the title during his return to the blue brand with Baron Corbin picking up the title soon after (or maybe directly following a Mahal/Cena encounter). It would be an amazing moment to celebrate on America’s birthday and then immediately have Corbin swoop in and take the title in true WWE fashion.

Only time will tell just how long WWE is going to let Jinder Mahal hold onto the WWE Championship, but don’t be surprised if fans see SmackDown’s top title change hands a couple of times before SummerSlam rolls around.
