Battleground was fun, wasn’t it? The morning after the Philly PPV people are still wondering what they just saw. Well, they know what they saw. It’s just that some people are still trying to figure out if they liked it or not.
Jinder Mahal almost won the Punjabi Prison Match on his own, and by “almost” I mean in no way did he do it by himself. Little did Randy Orton know The Singh Brothers were hiding under the ring. We can only assume they climbed under there while the lights were out playing a video package and they sprung up on cue to drag Jinder out of the first cage. Then The Great Khali came down to help Mahal escape the second ring of bamboo.
Say what you want about Battleground but it did include probably the best Punjabi Prison Match of all time. Then again, the first two matches weren’t exactly five-star classics either. The near thirty-minute match highlighted a notch in Jinder Mahal’s belt while bringing back a familiar face.
The Great Khali is back and Bryan Alvarez hypothesized on Wrestling Observer Live Khali’s Battleground showing was not a one-off. That means The Punjabi Playboy is probably back for more than one appearance and there might even be some kind of payoff match in store for fans. But don’t get too comfortable as Alvarez also noted this was “for the moment.”
It was said WWE decided to bring back Khali because Jinder Mahal wasn’t getting over in India the way they would have liked. Therefore WWE brought back someone who is already a huge celebrity over there.
It was said The Great Khali’s return might result in a tag match at SummerSlam. If they put Jinder Mahal in a tag match at SummerSlam it could certainly be a way to figure out how to keep the title on Mahal until WWE tours India. The tag match could be a six-man match with Khali teaming with The Singh Brothers, but only time will tell how they book this one.
Of course, WWE could always take the title off of The Modern Day Maharaja even sooner if reports are true he’s not doing good business. Because there’s always a certain Lone Wolf waiting in the wings with a shiny briefcase.
