CM Punk has been out of action since January, but he’s been able to keep his feud with Drew McIntyre going for months now. The tension between Punk and McIntyre reached an all time high last weekend when Punk interfered in the main event at Clash at the Castle and cost Drew McIntyre the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Now everyone is wondering when we could finally see Punk and McIntyre face off in the ring.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that the hope is CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre will take place at SummerSlam on August 3rd. However, as of right now CM Punk’s status for the event is up in the air.
It was emphasized that CM Punk could be ready to return to the ring by SummerSlam, but right now it’s not a sure thing. Punk is set to appear on Friday Night SmackDown in Chicago this week, and WWE is hinting that Punk could make an announcement regarding his status during tonight’s show. WWE posted the following teaser for Punk’s segment on SmackDown:
“CM Punk has been out of action since tearing his triceps at Royal Rumble earlier this year, but all of that could change when The Best in the World makes his return to Chicago this Friday.
At the Clash at the Castle: Scotland Post-Show, Punk stated he would provide an update on his health this Friday.
Punk has much to discuss, especially after his involvement in the main event of Clash at the Castle: Scotland when he sported a referee’s shirt and refused to count to three as Drew McIntyre was covering World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest for a potential title victory.
What news will Punk deliver? Don’t miss SmackDown, this Friday at 8/7 C on FOX!”
