Planning the Biggest Party Of The Summer can be a tough job. It takes a lot of moving parts around until you get the right fit. It appears as though WWE might still be positioning some pieces into place for SummerSlam this year and there’s a very good reason why. The reason is scary and Samoan.
Apparently Samoa Joe was underestimated once again as he did gangbusters during his program with Brock Lesnar. The match might have ended with Brock Lesnar going over clean after one F5, but Joe’s impact was felt (pun intended). Now WWE looks as though they might be including the Samoan Submission Machine into the Universal Title match at SummerSlam.
Dave Meltzer noted in The Observer that while WWE might stick with the initial plan with Brock Lesnar vs Roman Reigns in a singles match at SummerSlam, there is still a possibility to this turning into a triple threat.
It’s noted that multiple person matches have been done to death at this point in WWE and that’s hard to argue. This is evident in the Big Four especially, which include WrestleMania, SummerSlam, Survivor Series (a PPV built around multi-person elimination matches), and Royal Rumble (a PPV in which the featured match is a 30-man Rumble).
But it would still be plenty fun to see Samoa Joe get another crack at the Universal Title. But wait, there’s more! It is also said WWE could add Braun Strowman into the match as well since Braun Strowman can’t be finished with Roman Reigns.
The notion is made that Braun could always just interfere in the Joe/Roman #1 contender match next week on Raw and insert himself into the situation there somehow. Or if Strowman cost Reigns the match WWE could still keep Roman Reigns for WrestleMania and let Joe get another crack at Brock Lesnar and his Universal Title.
But never forget that even though we can’t see him, John Cena is a free agent so he could always pop over to Raw and challenge for their title in a pinch if WWE ever needs him.
