On Sunday night Randy Orton challenged Drew McIntyre for the WWE Championship in the main event at the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view, and Orton defeated McIntyre to become a 14 time WWE World Champion.
It looks like Randy Orton will be holding the title for a while, as it was noted on a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio that as of Sunday current plans call for Randy Orton to defend the belt against Edge at WrestleMania 37.
Earlier this year it was reported that WWE officials had plans for the Orton vs. Edge feud to be a trilogy of matches culminating at SummerSlam, but Edge unfortunately suffered an injury while taping the Greatest Wrestling Match Ever at Backlash.
Edge vs. Orton has been rumored for WrestleMania 37 for some time now. It’s not currently known at this point in time exactly when Edge will be returning to the ring, as he admitted in a recent interview that his recovery is going slow.
As of right now WrestleMania 37 is set to take place from SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, CA on March 28, 2021 but it’s been reported that WWE officials are planning to move the event to Tampa.
