There is currently a petition on Change.org to induct the British Bulldog Davey Boy Smith into the WWE Hall of Fame. The petition’s page includes several video messages from members of the professional wrestling community including Magnus, Vince Russo, Bill DeMott, Billy Gunn, Hornswoggle, Al Snow, Teddy Long, Ted DiBiase, Booker T, and Sandman along with several others.
Non-wrestling personalities have joined the mission as well including Kevin Sorbo (TV’s Hercules), Randy Couture, and Noel Gurliemi (The Fast and the Furious). Ken Shamrock is the latest to upload an impassioned plea for WWE to consider the British wrestling legend in the ranks of their Hall of Fame.
The petition which was posted by the Diana Hart Foundation still needs a little over 2,500 signatures to reach it’s 15,000 signature goal.
Davey Boy died on May 18th, 2002 from an apparent heart attack while vacationing in Invermere, British Columbia with his then girlfriend and Bruce Hart’s estranged wife, Andrea Redding. Although there were claims that drugs were to blame for his early death at 39-years of age, there were no apparent correlations found by examiners after an autopsy. Bruce Hart would later claim that “Davey paid the price with steroid cocktails and human-growth hormones.”
The 2017 WWE Hall of Fame class already has a rumored list which would make it a full show, but it is hard to argue that the British Bulldog doesn’t deserve his rightful place in the Hall of Fall sooner than later.
