O a recent episode of the Sam Roberts Wrestling Podcast he had former Mean Street Posse member Pete Gas on the program and he spoke about a number of stories concerning the Attitude Era and more. Pete Gas is doing media rounds right now to promote his autobiography: Looking at the Lights: My Path from Fan to a Wrestling Heel.
At the time of his run with WWE, Gas was a 29-year-old guy who happened to be friends with Shane McMahon and was thrust into the main storyline leading up to WrestleMania 15 during Shane-O-Mac’s feud with X-Pac.
Roberts said he was just in Los Angeles talking to X-Pac about his match with Shane McMahon and Sean Waltman said that he didn’t want to wrestle Shane at the time. He said when they told him at the time he was going to wrestle Shane-O-Mac, he wasn’t happy about it. But he said in hindsight it was one of the best things he could have ever done because people were so invested in the match.
Sam Roberts brought some amazing stories out of Gas, especially one about how Pete Gas was the guy that wrestled against Randy Orton in his tryout match with WWE.
“I know [Randy Orton] had a tryout in the year 1999 and it was with me […] he was good […] he was in Louisville for a few years […] I don’t remember a lot I’ve been hit in the head a lot of times. I was at WrestleMania as a fan the last time it was in Houston I wanna say. And I sat you know where we sit now with everyone else, I sat in the front row with the crowd and it was like hockey boards. And the talent came through and all made their way to their seats, and Randy came over to me and went out of his way to say hello […] at the Hall of Fame he comes up to me and whispers in my ear,’thanks man, I’ll never forget who my tryout was against.’ You know how awesome that was for him to do that? He didn’t have to do that […] that just shows what kinda guy he is.”
