Several WWE Superstars have had their names changed over the last few years and Pete Dunne was reintroduced to the WWE Universe as Butch when he got called up to the main roster in March.
Butch recently appeared on the Out of Character podcast with Ryan Satin where he explained that he got the call about the name change as he was boarding the plane to go to SmackDown.
“It was very casual, to be honest. I had flights come through for that ‘SmackDown,’ where I debuted, and then when I was just about to board the plane I got a call [telling me] the new name, and the basic rundown of the vision. Then I spent … the whole flight thinking to myself, ‘How is this going to be received?’ [while] knowing how it was going to be received, for the most part.”
The SmackDown star noted that thinking about the reception the name change was going to get gave him anxiety when he added, “To be honest, the main source of … anxiety or anxiousness with it was the way it was going to be received.”
The former NXT UK Champion went on to express confidence in his abilities when he said that he knows he can connect with the crowd with his performance in the ring. Do you like the name change? Sound off in the comments below.
