Everyone knows that WrestleMania is WWE’s biggest show of the year, so it almost goes without saying that WWE stars work hard to land a spot on the card.
On the road to WrestleMania 35, Kofi Kingston kicked off a feud with Daniel Bryan that eventually led to Kofi beating Daniel Bryan to win the WWE Championship on the Grandest Stage of Them All. It seems that WWE changed plans due to Kofi’s popularity at the time as former WWE producer Shawn Daivari has stated in the past that the original plan was for Kevin Owens to face Daniel Bryan.
Unfortunately for Kevin Owens he wasn’t part of WrestleMania 35 and he explained to Ariel Helwani of TNT Sports that at the time he truly didn’t understand why.
“When I wasn’t on WrestleMania 35…I did not understand why. I understood plans had changed, I was fine with it but I kept trying like ‘What else am I gonna do?’”
Owens admitted that he struggled with his status for WrestleMania 35 and while trying to process what was happening Paul Heyman advised him that he should threaten to quit.
“It was driving me insane. I’m like ‘What do I do?’ [and Paul says] ‘just walk in there and threaten to quit.”
Luckily Kevin Owens didn’t quit the company and things more than turned around for him as he went on to compete in the main event at WrestleMania 38 and WrestleMania 39.
