For many years the female wrestlers in WWE were known as the WWE Divas, but the company decided to make a change as part of the Women’s Revolution, and now they are known as Superstars. The term Diva seems to have a negative connotation attached to it, and when a fan on Twitter recently said that a major part of the Divas Era should be erased, he got a response from Maria Kanellis.
It wasn’t the Divas. It shouldn’t be erased. There were and still are women from that era that had/have a major impact on wrestling. https://t.co/WA4xEBRino

Former WWE Divas Champion Paige recently took to Twitter to defend the hard work of the wrestlers who fought during that era.
Paige added that when she first started watching all she wanted was to become a WWE Diva, and she was proud to make the transition from Diva to Superstar.
I was a diva.. something that every female fan and now wrestler strived to be growing up. The term and the past should never be erased. That’s our history and I’m proud of it. https://t.co/7M2Xu2bEOe

I don’t understand and will never understand why the term “diva” to some people is a negative. All I wanted to be when I first started watching and being a wrestler was to become a WWE diva. Incredible athletes. They paved the way for all of us. Don’t discredit their hard work.

I’m proud I got to be a diva and I’m proud that I got to be part of the transition of becoming a superstar.
