Paige’s journey back to the WWE has been filled with controversy. In 2016 her relationship with Alberto El Patron became a hot topic while she was sitting on the sidelines with a neck injury, and while she was out she was suspended for violating the WWE Wellness Policy.
After she was suspended she tried to save face by going on Twitter and posting: “Same sh** different day. Kids..Please don’t get prescriptions or doctors notes. Not acceptable.”
However, on a recent episode of Chasing Glory with Lilian Garcia, Paige came clean and admitted that she had been taking illegal drugs.
“I literally had like a 2005 Britney Spears meltdown, I was so close to shaving my head. I just got wrapped up in drinking and like I wanted to drink some more, so I would do that kind of stuff. I just got so wrapped up in the party lifestyle and I just wanted to be cool. I finally had a bunch of friends that liked me, but they don’t really like you. They’re just like ‘Oh cool, you’re spending money on us.’ So that was pretty much it. I just felt good that I felt free, that I was reliving a childhood I never had. I was hanging with people I never though I could never hang with before, with all these stars that I got to meet.”
“Then I get in a relationship, and it was kind of an uphill battle when it came to social media. But also I had my neck, and I’d never had a day off in my life, so when my neck came along and I thought I would never be a wrestler again that put me in depression. I just felt so alone, and I was in so much pain from my neck. I was just like, ‘This is fine. One more will be absolutely fine. I can do this. I’m not addicted to this pill.’ Which I’m not, because I completely stopped after I got humiliated online for that kind of stuff. But I made the dumb mistake, and it’s not even good. I didn’t even enjoy doing it.”
Lilian Garcia brought up the fact that after Paige went on Twitter saying she had a prescription, WWE issued a statement saying that she had been taking illegal drugs.
Paige said that she was just embarrassed and she tried to cover it up. She added that she also lied to her family. She noted that she had built herself up as a role model, and she was humiliated when the news went public.
She held no ill will toward WWE for telling the truth, and she looked at it as a kick in the butt. Paige said Mark Carrano called her every single day to ask her what they could do because the company wanted to get her the help she needed.
The former WWE Divas Champion said that the company has been fantastic to her when it comes to helping her work through her issues, and that she feels like she’s part of one big family.
She says when she returned Hunter, Vince and Stephanie said that they were happy to see her healthy and that they all believe in her. Before she appeared on TV, Stephanie McMahon told her she was going to be fine, and that she’s finally home.
