Roman Reigns made his surprise return at the SummerSlam pay-per-view back in August, and he went on to become Universal Champion when he faced Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman in the Payback main event one week later.
The Tribal Chief has been champion ever since, but Dave Meltzer noted on a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio that original plans for Roman’s Universal Title win called for him to have a short run with the title.
A long title reign for Roman was reportedly not the original idea.
There’s currently no word on who might be in line to become the next Universal Champion, but it was recently reported that WWE is currently planning a feud between Roman Reigns and Daniel Bryan.
Reigns is currently scheduled to face WWE Champion Drew McIntyre in a champion vs. champion non-title match at the Survivor Series pay-per-view on Sunday.
