The last few weeks have forced WWE to make some changes due to positive COVID-19 tests, and WWE had to nix plans for the Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns match at Day 1 after Reigns was pulled from the show.
Dave Meltzer via Sports Illustrated is reporting that originally WWE planned for Big E to lose the WWE Championship to Seth Rollins at the Day 1 pay-per-view. However, plans were changed after Roman Reigns tested positive for COVID-19 and Brock Lesnar was added to the WWE Championship match.
“The original plan to build for WrestleMania, whatever it was, changed greatly when Lesnar pinned Big E to win the WWE title to end Saturday’s show. The original scripted plan for the show was for Big E to lose the championship, but to Seth Rollins, who had tested positive for COVID-19 last week, and the champion instead lost his title to Lesnar as the result of another positive test,” Meltzer noted.
At this point it’s not clear what WWE had planned for Rollins following Day 1, or if he could be getting involved in the title picture once again in the future. This week on Monday Night Raw fans saw Bobby Lashley earn the right to challenge Brock Lesnar for the WWE Title when he won a fatal 4 way, and Lashley will get his shot at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view. Stay tuned for updates.
