Roman Reigns made his surprise return at SummerSlam, then he won the Universal Championship one week later at the Payback pay-per-view, and he’s been champion ever since.
The Tribal Chief has been feuding with his cousin Jey Uso for months, and he recently defended his belt against Jey in an I Quit Hell in a Cell match at the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view last month.
Jey and Roman had been in a heated rivalry before Jey joined forces with Roman recently on SmackDown, but according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter they were originally only supposed to face off once.
Original plans for the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view called for Roman Reigns to defend the Universal Championship against The Fiend, Braun Strowman and fourth competitor in a four way match. There’s no word on who the fourth person was supposed to be.
Obviously WWE changed course which is why the Roman Reigns-Fiend tease was never followed up on.
It doesn’t look like fans will be seeing The Fiend and/or Braun Strowman face The Big Dog anytime soon, as they were both sent to Raw in the recent draft.
