This week’s episode of AEW Dynamite featured a big title match in the main event as Wardlow defended the TNT Championship against Powerhouse Hobbs in a Falls Count Anywhere match.
The end of the match came when QT Marshall interfered and beat Wardlow down with a steel chair which led to Marshall and Hobbs hitting Wardlow with a double powerbomb off the stage. Wardlow failed to get up before the 10 count and Powerhouse Hobbs was crowned the new TNT Champion.
Fightful Select reports that Powerhouse Hobbs was tentatively planned to win the TNT Championship around this time months ago. It was reported last fall that Hobbs was set for a big push and it’s being said that this was the endgame.
Powerhouse Hobbs joined AEW in 2020 and this is the first time that he has held championship gold since debuting with the company. It seems that Hobbs is set for bigger things, so it will be interesting to see where things go from here.
