Last weekend the annual Survivor Series pay-per-view aired, and WWE celebrated the 25th anniversary of The Rock’s debut at the event. The Great One did not appear on the show, but WWE did do a sponsorship deal, which included a storyline focusing on a stolen egg, to promote his movie Red Notice.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that the original idea was for The Rock to appear at Survivor Series, but The Rock is currently in Australia filming season 2 of Young Rock, and he will be there until January.
It was noted that in normal times Rock probably could have made an appearance at Survivor Series, but due to COVID-19 he would have had to quarantine for two weeks after, which is why an appearance wasn’t possible.
For some time it was rumored that WWE hoped to use the Survivor Series PPV to build to a match between Roman Reigns and The Rock at WrestleMania 38, but the belief is that if the match does happen it will take place at WrestleMania 39 in 2023.
