A few months ago WWE announced that Rob Gronkowski had signed a contract with the company, and he went on to win the WWE 24/7 Championship at WrestleMania 36.
However, Gronk dropped the 24/7 Championship to R-Truth on Monday Night Raw this week, and it was later reported that he had been released from his WWE contract.
Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that Rob Gronkowski was originally contracted for three events.
Plans called for him to work WrestleMania 36, SummerSlam, and WWE’s next pay-per-view in Saudi Arabia which is expected to take place later this year.
Rob Gronkowski asked to be released from his contract and his exit is said to have been a mutual departure.
It was noted that when he signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers the deal was that he could not do pro wrestling. It’s speculated that Gronk had a clause in his contract that would allow him to leave if he decided to return to the NFL.
