WrestleMania is less than one month away and the Undisputed WWE Championship match is locked in. Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes signed a contract last week on SmackDown, and it’s been confirmed that The Viper will be challenging The American Nightmare for the title on the Grandest Stage of Them All.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that plans for Cody’s opponent for WrestleMania went back and forth between Randy Orton and Drew McIntyre. It was also noted that there was talk of adding a Hell in a Cell stipulation if Drew McIntyre ended up as Cody’s opponent, but that was not a sure thing.
Cody Rhodes vs. Roman Reigns in a Hell in a Cell match was also strongly talked about until the decision was made to have Roman Reigns face off against CM Punk.
According to the report Bronson Reed’s injury for some reason was the clincher for WWE’s plan to move forward with Rhodes vs. Orton and McIntyre vs. Fatu at WrestleMania.
Cody Rhodes vs. Randy Orton was said to have always been in the plans, but the original idea was for the two stars to face off in a major program after WrestleMania.
