WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle made his return to the ring Sunday night when he entered the Royal Rumble match at number 4, but Angle only lasted a few minutes before he was eliminated.
Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that Angle’s run in the Royal Rumble was underwhelming because originally Zack Ryder was supposed to be in Angle’s spot during the match.
At some point it was decided to add Kurt to the match, but when Kurt was added to the match, the spot wasn’t rebooked.
The company didn’t have any specific plans for Kurt Angle during the match, so he just ended up doing everything that Zack Ryder was originally supposed to do.
