Original Plans For Gunther At WrestleMania 42

Gunther has asserted his dominance over the last year or so as he retired Goldberg last summer, retired John Cena in December, and retired AJ Styles at the Royal Rumble premium live event back in January.

It seems that WWE had been setting Gunther up to be a serious threat as he’s been dubbed the Career Killer. However, Gunther has not appeared on WWE programming since the March 2nd episode of Monday Night Raw, and WWE has given no indication that he will be stepping into the ring at WrestleMania in April.

Bodyslam is reporting that Gunther’s feud with Dragon Lee was originally supposed to set up a program with Rey Mysterio that would have led to a WrestleMania match.

With Rey Mysterio suffering a rib injury prior to the Royal Rumble the direction for Gunther at WrestleMania has changed, and it is currently unknown if The Ring General will end up competing at WrestleMania unless Mysterio is cleared for in-ring competition.

Over the last few years there’s been a lot of speculation regarding a potential Gunther vs. Brock Lesnar match, but that clearly won’t be happening at WrestleMania as Lesnar vs. Oba Femi was confirmed for the Show of Shows on Raw this week.

Stay tuned for updates.
