The past few months have been absolutely crazy for Becky Lynch. When she was the SmackDown Women’s Champion back in November, she was scheduled to face Ronda Rousey in a champion vs. champion match at Survivor Series, but unfortunately Becky had to be pulled from the match due to injury.
Becky Lynch picked Charlotte Flair to be her replacement, and Charlotte most definitely took the fight to Rousey.
One thing Charlotte Flair didn’t do is defeat Rousey, as The Baddest Woman on the Planet was declared the winner by disqualification after Charlotte grabbed a kendo stick and started beating Ronda down.
Dave Meltzer recently discussed Becky Lynch’s journey to WrestleMania on Wrestling Observer Radio, and he noted that the DQ finish with the kendo stick was always the original plan for the match.
Ronda Rousey was not booked to submit Becky Lynch in the match at Survivor Series, the plan was always for Lynch to attack Ronda with the kendo stick and get disqualified, and the finish wasn’t changed when Charlotte took her place.
Becky Lynch won the Royal Rumble on Sunday, and then declared on Monday that she will be challenging Ronda Rousey at WrestleMania 35 in April.
At this point it’s believed that current plans call for the match to become a triple threat when Charlotte Flair is added.
