For a number of years SmackDown was the house that AJ Styles built, but in 2019 The Phenomenal One was drafted to Monday Night Raw.
Styles had a decent run on Monday Night Raw, but it was announced last week on Friday Night SmackDown that the former WWE Champion has officially been traded to the blue brand.
AJ Styles picked up a big win over his former rival Shinsuke Nakamura in the Intercontinental Title tournament last week, and now he’s set to face Elias in the next round.
Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that AJ Styles was originally supposed to be on Raw to make new babyfaces.
Ricochet, Cedric Alexander and Humberto Carillo were all supposed to be in big feuds with AJ that were meant to get them over and give them a title win. Meltzer noted that none of the aforementioned names got over, and that AJ didn’t even lose on his way out, besides to The Undertaker.
He went on to say that Apollo Crews is now in a spot similar to what was planned for Ricochet, Alexander and Carillo, and that his push could end the same way.
What was your reaction to Apollo’s big US Title win? Sound off in the comments below.
