Last week, John Cena hosted the kick-off event for the Nintendo Switch Experience Tour. The premier Switch & Play In Unexpected Places event of this tour was held at the Blue Cloud Movie Ranch in the rolling hills of California, the perfect setting to show off the unique capabilities of Nintendo’s newest gaming system.
John Cena played select Nintendo Switch games, including The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild and 1-2-Switch, a hilarious launch game that includes entertaining games like milking a cow, eating a sandwich, walking a runway and participating in a Wild West duel, with fans before the system’s official release on March 3rd, creating a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for everyone involved.
Of his hands-on time with the new Nintendo system, Cena said, “It’s the feeling you get when you come off a roller coaster, you come off smiling, like ‘That was awesome, can we go again!?’” He later noted, “I’m going to have a lot of fun with my friends on 1-2-Switch. I was particularly good at quick draw, not so good at walking the runway, or dancing my booty off.”
The remote — and unexpected — location of the event was chosen to showcase the versatility of Nintendo Switch, the new home gaming console with the portability of a handheld. The system provides users the opportunity to take video game experiences anywhere they go, giving them the freedom to play where, when and how they like.
Reflecting on that quote, one must wonder who Cena is referring to when he says “my friends.” Is he actually a big gamer? Also leads one to wonder why Nintendo didn’t call Xavier Woods — WWE’s resident gamer — and invite down UpUpDownDown to be in on the action.
Either way, it will be interesting to see if Nintendo can reinvent as a leading game company in 2017, and whether the next WW2K game comes out via Nintendo’s new console.
