Nikki Bella Reveals Why WWE Wanted Her And John Cena To Hide Their Relationship

John Cena and Nikki Bella are a WWE power couple, and they teamed up to face The Miz and Maryse at WrestleMania 33 on Sunday. John and Nikki managed to pull off a victory, but it was what happened after the match that got everyone talking.

After the bell rang, John Cena got down on one knee and asked Nikki Bella to marry him. Nikki said yes and now Cena and Bella are engaged.

Nikki Bella has been dating John Cena for years, and although their relationship has been a big part of Total Divas and Total Bellas, it hasn’t been acknowledged on WWE programming until recently.

The Wrestling Compadres Slamcast recently spoke to Nikki Bella about why the relationship was kept off of TV for so long, and she says that WWE officials made the call to keep John away from on-screen relationships.

“What they realized is that when John was in relationships on-screen, it didn’t do as well when he was just himself. So the fan base didn’t take him in like how that was. So after the last on-screen, they were like, no girls with this guy. And I think with a lot of those guys — like, I don’t think you’ll ever see a girl with Roman (Reigns). There’s just certain people that it’s just, not that it takes away the ‘Superman’ feel of them, but a little bit.”
