New WWE Intercontinental Champion Crowned At WWE Extreme Rules

WWE Extreme Rules took over the WWE Network on Sunday night, and Dean Ambrose defended his Intercontinental Championship against The Miz. The stipulation for this match was a bit odd considering the fact that the pay-per-view was titled Extreme Rules, as it was determined ahead of time that the Intercontinental Championship would change hands via disqualification.

Dean Ambrose and The Miz certainly aren’t strangers, as they feuded often when both stars were members of the SmackDown Live roster. They quickly picked up their feud once again when they were both transferred to WWE Monday Night Raw during the Superstar Shake-up, and they’ve been holding things down in the IC Title scene ever since.

Although this is a match that we’ve already seen quite a few times, Miz and Ambrose still give it their all each and every time, so they didn’t disappoint at Extreme Rules on Sunday night.

The match kicked off the show and both stars had to work hard to try and get extreme as they battled against the confines of a traditional match.

The action spilled to the outside and both Ambrose and Miz teased hitting each other with a chair but the referee broke it up.

The Miz applied the figure four and Dean Ambrose started to sell a knee injury. He climbed to the top rope and Miz knocked him down. Miz tried for a superplex, but Ambrose blocked it and countered by trying to hit a powerbomb, but as Ambrose went for the powerbomb, Miz grabbed the padding off the top turnbuckle. Ambrose was going to smash Miz’s face into the turnbuckle, but realized that would cause a disqualification, so he stopped.

The two stars then battled back and forth for several minutes and then Ambrose threw Miz into the ropes while Maryse was standing on the ring apron. Maryse slapped Miz to try and get Ambrose disqualified, but the ref threw her out.

While the referee was throwing Maryse out, Miz threw Ambrose into the referee and knocked him out of the ring. The referee then struggled as he decided whether or not he wanted to disqualify Ambrose.

As Ambrose was arguing with the referee, The Miz hit the Skull Crushing Finale to win the match.
