A few weeks ago Dolph Ziggler won the WWE United States Championship at the Clash of Champions pay-per-view, but he shocked the world when he left the title in the ring on the following episode of SmackDown Live and walked out.
Daniel Bryan later announced that a tournament would be held to crown a new United States Champion, and Tuesday night on SmackDown Live the tournament progressed.
Jinder Mahal defeated Xavier Woods to advance in the tournament, and Bobby Roode managed to defeat Mojo Rawley in the semi-finals. After Roode picked up a big victory, The Singh Brothers attacked him.
General Manager Daniel Bryan then made his way out into the arena and he announced that the finals of the tournament would take place this week, and he booked Jinder Mahal vs. Bobby Roode for the US Title as the main event of SmackDown.
Roode and Mahal battled back and forth in the main event while Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan watched from ringside, but in the end it was Roode who won the title.
The end of the match came when Jinder Mahal went for his finisher, but Roode was able to counter the move and turn it into a Glorious DDT to get the win.
Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon handed Bobby Roode the US Title as SmackDown went off the air.
