The stars of NXT showcased their skills at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn III on Saturday night, and they did not disappoint. The show was loaded with excellent matches from top to bottom, and every title was on the line.
The main event was one of the most anticipated matches of the night, as it featured Bobby Roode defending his NXT Championship against the one and only Drew McIntyre.
Drew McIntyre has had an interesting journey over the past few years, as he was released from the WWE main roster in 2014. Drew turned a negative into a positive when he hit the ground running and worked harder than ever before. He managed to make a name for himself and capture championship gold all over the world before he was welcomed back to the WWE family when he signed with NXT earlier this year.
Likewise, Bobby Roode has also had an interesting journey as he signed with NXT last year, and he won the NXT Championship at NXT Takeover: San Antonio back in January.
Roode’s title reign has been glorious, but many fans wondered if it would come to an end when he defended the belt against Drew McIntyre on Saturday night. Both men put up a good fight but in the end it was Drew McIntyre who walked out with the title after he won the NXT Championship for the first time in his career.
The match featured many near falls, and at one point it looked like Bobby Roode had it won after he hit McIntyre with the Glorious DDT, but Drew kicked out.
Roode hit the Glorious DDT again, but instead of pinning Drew, he went for it again. Drew got out of it by headbutting Roode, and while Roode was dazed, Drew McIntyre hit the Claymore to get the win.
As Drew McIntyre was celebrating, Kyle O’Reilly and Bobby Fish made their way to the ring, and as Drew McIntyre was distracted, Adam Cole attacked him from behind, and the former Ring of Honor stars destroyed the new NXT Champion. Adam Cole grabbed the title then dropped it.
The three former ROH stars stood tall to end the show.
