Battleground featured a fatal five-way elimination match to determine the #1 contender for Naomi’s Smackdown Women’s Championship. The match was actually much better than most would have thought.
Although Lana and Tamina dominated most of the match, Natalya was the one who came out on top in the end. She eliminated Becky Lynch by pulling on her tights and then took the fight to Charlotte.
Honestly, any time Natalya and Charlotte are in the ring together it’s easy to close your eyes and wish for something as good as the match they had at TakeOver. Even though these two didn’t quite have a TakeOver-level confrontation it was still watchable and full of suspense.
Natalya bounced Charlotte Flair’s head off of the bottom turnbuckle and secured a clean win. After the match was over, Naomi got in the ring to look her new challenger in the eyes.
After extending a handshake, Nattie just looked The Glow in the face and walked away. The Queen Of Harts obviously has big plans for SummerSlam and didn’t feel the need for sportsmanship.
Later on, Naomi tweeted at Natalya and called her out for throwing shade her way by not shaking her hand. It was a move that could have been interrupted as rather rude to say the least.
Natalya replied by saying she’s not going to shake Naomi’s hand but instead she plans on snatching the SmackDown Women’s Champion bald. Those are obviously fighting words because Naomi’s hair has become a well-known part of her entrance at this point as her glow-in-the-dark extensions light up the ring while she whips her hair back and forth.
We might have to wait for SummerSlam for these two to finally collide. But the weeks leading up the The Biggest Party Of The Summer certainly look like they’re going to be plenty entertaining.
Of course, depending on who you ask (especially if you ask Carmella), Naomi might not even be the SmackDown Women’s Champion by the time SummerSlam rolls back into Brooklyn.
