Naomi is a two time SmackDown Women’s Champion, and the road to her second title victory wasn’t pretty. The SmackDown star won the title for the first time at the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view, but unfortunately she also suffered an injury during the match, and she had to vacate the belt a few days later.
After she vacated the SmackDown Women’s Championship, Naomi’s status for WrestleMania 33 was in doubt, but she managed to return and reclaim the title she never lost. Naomi recently spoke to Fox Sports about her big return, and she said that she had to beg in order to get WWE officials to clear her for the match.
“Yes, it was literally the week before. And even then it was still a possibility, ‘I don’t know if you want to risk it or give it more time.’ I fought and fought and fought and begged. Just had to really get them to trust me. ‘Trust me, I know my body. I can go, I can do this.’ And it was literally a week before. I for sure thought I wasn’t going to make it.”
Charlotte recently joined the SmackDown Live roster, and she quickly earned a shot at Naomi’s championship. Although the former Raw star clearly wants to take the title from Naomi, the current SmackDown Women’s Championship thinks her feud with Charlotte will bring out the best in her.
“Charlotte is a phenomenal performer. She’s a phenomenal athlete. She has definitely been the most successful female on our roster, and everything she’s accomplished is everything that I’m trying to get to, and I’m trying to do. Charlotte definitely is one hell of a challenge and a great competitor, and I think me being against her is only going to bring out the best in me… I’m going to reach my fullest potential being in there, because she is one of the best.”
