Vince McMahon returned to WWE back in January to pursue a sale of the company and since then there’s been a lot of speculation regarding how involved Vince would be with WWE creative. It was announced on Monday that WWE has reached a deal for Endeavor to purchase the company, and Vince McMahon made his presence felt at Raw.
Fightful Select reports that McMahon came along right before the show started and changed much of the show after WWE led meetings were held where it was said nothing would be changing. Vince was in the Gorilla position all night after WWE had told numerous sources that Triple H would be leading the charge. Vince made changes throughout Raw and production and talent were getting instructions during the show as it aired.
It’s being said that this was the biggest hit to morale since Vince left last year, and the lowest point for backstage morale since it hit an all time low before WrestleMania last year. Numerous talent were disappointed as they feel that this weekend was Vince McMahon’s way of working himself back into the fold. Some talent felt as if they were sold a bill of goods because Vince McMahon was in Gorilla and earlier that day it was claimed that Triple H would be leading in that position.
Vince’s future plans are unknown, but if he flies to SmackDown in Portland on Friday then it will be seen as a huge negative sign for talent and staff.
It’s also being reported that at least two talent, one of which is near the top of the card, said they’ll likely request their release if this becomes the trend moving forward. Another talent said they will just ride out their deal.
Multiple wrestlers are said to be exploring what their other options would be in the event that Vince McMahon gets involved on a steady basis. Stay tuned for updates.
