It was recently announced that WWE Studios will be teaming up with The Rock’s Seven Bucks Productions to make a movie about Paige aka Saraya-Jade Bevis Miller (soon to be Rodríguez), and her legendary family.
The film is slated to be based on the incredible documentary “Fighting With My Family”, and if you haven’t seen it already this writer highly recommends it. The Bevis clan run the World Association of Wrestling promotion in Norwich, England which predominantly features the family in many concurrent angles. Fun fact, Paige’s mom wrestled for 7 months while pregnant with her before she realized that she was with child. Therefore, when Paige says that she’s been wrestling since before she was born, she means it.
Stephen Merchant is going to direct the upcoming film. Those who might not know Merchant by name will certainly know his work. He co-wrote and co-directed the original BBC incarnation of “The Office” and executive produced the American version of the show. Merchant is also known for his comedic work in “Hot Fuzz,” “Run Fatboy Run,” and as the voice of Wheatley in the video game “Portal 2.”
Although the upcoming project is very young in regards to production status, there have been a few details leaked which will excite and fascinate fans. Pro Wrestling Sheet reports that former NXT talents Tessa Blanchard and Thea Trinidad have been tapped for the project.
Although Blanchard and Trinidad’s roles have not been specified, they are reported to be involved in the project in some manner. Some have theorized that they very well might make it on the screen due to the fact that actual wrestling talent will be essential in telling an authentic professional wrestling tale, but they could also be utilized for training purposes as well.
One person who is slated to get some ring-time under her belt is “Game of Thrones” actress, Lena Headey who will play Paige’s mother, Sweet Saraya (Julia Hamer-Bevis) in the film. Headey is more commonly known for her work as Cersei Lannister in the HBO series “Game of Thrones,” although some might remember her as Kitty from the 1994 Disney live-action adaptation of “The Jungle Book.”
The Rock is also rumored to have a cameo in the film, although his extent of on-screen involvement is still being kept under wraps at this juncture.
