WWE has been making changes behind the scenes as of late, and recently Steve Guerreri and Steve Oppenheim, two of the lead writers, were let go.
The decision to let them go was said to have been in the works for a while and was not a Paul Heyman or Eric Bischoff move.
Oppenheim was the lead writer of the home team and worked out of Stamford instead of going on the road. He had been with the company since 2011.
Steve Guerreri is well respected as a smart guy, but he reportedly had a falling out with Vince McMahon years ago and was taken off the road according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
When Brian James was working as the head writer on SmackDown, Guerreri was doing much of the writing with James pitching the ideas to Vince McMahon, but over time he wasn’t happy with being the odd man out.
When James needed to get off the writing team Guerreri was kept on until a new structure was put in place.
Oppenheim worked as the lead home writer for Raw and was involved more with the structure of the show than the actual creative.
When WWE started making changes to Raw Oppenheim was the first to be let go.
