CM Punk’s AEW contract was terminated last month, and it was rumored that Punk was in talks with WWE, but now it seems that a WWE return is not an option for Punk at this point in time.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that company officials have said WWE has no interest in CM Punk and talks are dead right now. It’s possible that things could change in the future, but it’s doubtful that it will happen anytime soon because WWE is doing good business right now.
It’s being said that it’s Vince McMahon’s call not to bring CM Punk back. Nick Khan and Triple H are also in charge, but in the end they are doing what Vince McMahon wants. However, it was also noted that the door can never truly be closed completely because it’s wrestling. The teases that have been done on WWE programming recently are not an indication that Punk is coming back.
If CM Punk was brought in he could help with ratings in the short term, sell tickets, and likely a good amount of merchandise. However, WWE is strong enough without CM Punk and the call is that they don’t need anyone who could be a negative.
